Garlic Extract Powder

It is the most popular ingredients of garlic supplements, which is pulverized and often made into tablets or capsules. Key active ingredient is Allicin.

First, Enteric-coated capsules or tablets are a must if you buy this type of garlic supplement. Because alliinase is inactivated by the acidic pH of the stomach, which will keep you from getting any allicin.

Second, buy the supplements which standardized by “allicin”, “allicin potential”, or “allicin yield”.  Many manufacturers and brands provide information on the allicin of their powdered garlic supplements, but few provide information on the “allicin release.” This is also important to how much allicin you can get. Garlife™ Garlic Extract allicin release efficiency is more than 3 times that of ordinary products. (learn more about Garlife™ Garlic Extract)

Black garlic extract

This is the fastest growing garlic supplement, which is pulverized and often made into tablets or capsules. Key active ingredient is SAC (S-Allyl-L-cysteine) which is same with aged garlic extract.

For black garlic supplement you only need to focus on the extraction ratio, or standardized SAC amount. SAC is very stable, could be used as reliable markers of compliance in clinical trials involving garlic intake.

Aged garlic extract

It is obtained by fermenting and extracting fresh garlic, which is same with black garlic extract. Just the fermentation process is different.

Aged garlic extract was originally developed and commercialized by Kyolic first, which is the most successful brand of aged garlic supplement. It is safe and proven to be effective. But it is a pity that the content of the main ingredient SAC in Kyolic is not claimed. In addition, the extraction solvent of aged garlic extract is alcohol, which is unacceptable to consumers in some cultures.

If you are a brand owner, it is really not recommended to compete with monopoly brand.

Garlic oil macerate (softgel)

Incubation of crushed garlic cloves in oil at room temperature results in the formation of vinyldithiins and ajoene from allicin, in addition to allyl sulfides, such as DADS and DATS.

Pay attentions about allicin, Vinyldithiins, or Diallyl trisulfide content. And carrier oil, obviously olive oil has more benefits than soybean oil

Garlic oil steam-distilled

This is an almost completely abandoned product. Because garlic oil produced in this way is highly concentrated and must be sufficiently diluted before it can be used in human health products. The whole process is uneconomical and creates environmental problems.

Allicin Powder (Or allicin extract)

The manufactures claims it is 100% yield allicin. But the attention of most consumers is attracted by “100%” and “allicin”, completely ignoring the existence of “yield”.

According to our analysis, and the brand’s self-description, the content of excipients in allicin powder is more than 98%, and there are only 50mg allicin per kilogram. Because allicin is a very active ingredient and must be protected by a large number of excipients to be stable.
